This is the finalised card design for the Emperor. The hair colour for the emperor was changed to a less bright colour because it conflicted with the rest of the character. The crystals were a challenge to see what I could do ability wise and decided to incorporate them onto his throne in the background, with a nice glow, to signify their magical properties. The magic circle was incorporated as a means of showing himself as a threat to any that oppose him and his right to rule.
This is the finalised design of the Emperor. As you can see, certain elements of it were taken from previous concepts such as the boots and the evil eye headband. The colour scheme for the design was inspired by Maleficent, the mistress of all evil, from the 1959 Disney version of Sleeping Beauty.
Every Emperor needs something to remind you of his power, and a scepter was just what was needed. Because he is an evil character, I had looked at incorporating evil touches to the scepter such as evil eyes and demonic wings. I settled on a scepter with a dark crystal house into it to stick with the crystal theme to his void palace and throne.
These are all the unused designs for the Emperor. The designs themselves were not used because I didn't feel they resembled my vision of what I wanted the Emperor to look like, but certain elements were used for the final design.
IV - The Emperor
This was the final character I had to design for my Honours project at University.
I wanted to create an evil character this time around, and the Emperor was the most appropriate choice to accommodate that.
